So you want to go online

If you want to know how to play on the net then follow the following steps.

• You need to download the Quake 2 3.20 patch. This includes maps. Go to http://www.planetquake.com/.
• Download GameSpy. This is an easy to use interface where you pick a game (e.g. Deathmatch) and double click on it and it launches Quake 2 and sets up the connection for you
• For GameSpy, only play on the Barrysworld servers because they are the fastest........
• Get a connection to Barrysworld...........

Blair's Guide to get a low Ping

Are you sick of having a ping of 200+ then follow the following advice and you should get your ping down to 120-150, which helps.

• If you are rich get an IDSN line from BT and then you'll get a ping of 50 odd.
• If you're not rich then get yourself a 56K V90. These are so good that when my m8 Blackbean saw how fast my connection was that he went out and bought himself one the very next day. They are great but make sure that your ISP supports V90.
• Get a connection to Barrysworld (http://barrysworld.com/) This ISP is dedicated to games and is ulta-fast.
• Get yourself a Voodoo 2 or 3. This takes a lot of stress off your CPU and makes internet games run faster.

Eraser Bot

Eraser Bot has a simple, easy to use front end where you set up the game. It supports Capture the flag, deathmatch, deathmatch with teams and single player (select any level easily). The AI of the bots is ok and is good for beginners. If you don't want to go on the net and get completely battered by someone on your first go then I'd recommend it.

Gladiator Bot

This is for pros only. This is a very good (probably the best) multiplayer simulator I've used. The AI is exceptional and makes the soldiers from Half-Life look like Forest Gump's thick relatives. They hear you, they camp and wait for you to collect your favourite weapon. This is for the hard core Internet gamer who needs to cut down on his phone bill.
